Barometric Pressure

Barometric pressure is the pressure exerted by the weight of the atmosphere, also called atmospheric pressure.

Barometric pressure is the force per unit area exerted by the column of air above a given point, and it changes with altitude and weather. At sea level it averages about 14.7 psi, or 1.0 ATA. Hyperbaric chambers create an environment where pressure is raised above the local barometric pressure to deliver the effects of increased ambient pressure.

This entry is part of the OxyEdge Hyperbaric Glossary, a plain-language reference covering the pressure, oxygen-delivery, and chamber-construction terms you will encounter when researching mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Understanding this vocabulary makes it easier to compare chamber specifications, evaluate safety features, and ask the right questions before purchasing a chamber for a clinic, wellness center, or home.
